The key difference between blue light glasses and anti glare glasses is that blue light glasses block the blue light high energy rays emitted from the led. ![]() “Depending on the type of coating applied, the reflection can be blue, purple, or another color, and it’s dependent on the type of coating offered at the specific lab that’s creating your customized pair of blue-light blocking glasses,” says Monica Hazien, OD, an optometrist for My Eyelab. Whether its for work or play, computer glasses can protect your eyes from prolonged exposure to harmful blue light. If you see a purple or green reflection, it means they only have an anti-glare filter and no blue light filtering properties. You can’t tell to what extent they filter blue light, though. Use a pigments test to tell if glasses are. If you notice a blue reflection on the surface of the lens, it means that your blue light glasses are reflecting blue light. Unfortunately, this is a residual effect of the blue-light blocking technology, and labs have yet to figure out how to eliminate the side effect, so every anti-reflective coating will have this effect on lenses. If you see no reflection, they dont have either blue light filtering properties or even an anti-glare coating. If your glasses are blocking blue light, you should now see two black squares. Look into the blue and black squares with your glasses on. If so, search 'Blue and Black Circle Test' to find a black circle with a blue inner circle inside. Anything less than that percentage won’t protect your eyes effectively. Alternatively, sometimes this test is done as a blue and black circle. Your daytime glasses must filter a minimum of 30 to 50 of blue light throughout the spectrum for them to be user-friendly or helpful. They have a durable scratch-resistant and anti-reflective. It’s important to concentrate on the portion of blue light discussed in the report. Monica Hazien, OD, Monica Hazien, OD, is an optometrist for My Eyelab.
